Rafael Nadal is coming to Lima for an exhibition match against fellow tennis star, David Ferrer, in November, promoting company Kandavu Productions has confirmed.
The upcoming exhibition is a rematch of this year’s French Open final in Paris when ATP world No.4 Nadal defeated No.3 Ferrer to earn Gran Slam title number 12 of his career.
Peruvian tennis fans will get a chance to see Nadal play on his surface of choice—clay—at Jockey Club del Peru in Monterrico.
Kandavu Productions confirmed the date of the event to be November 17 and say the prices will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
According to Alejandro Gonzales, general manager of Kandavu, the company plans of selling 10,000 tickets for the exhibition match.
This will be Nadal’s first visit to Peru. His Spanish national team competed for the Davis Cup in Lima in 2008, but Nadal did not make the trip.
Nadal is currently playing at the Master 1000 of Toronto. He qualified for the quarter finals of that tournament with a win over Jerzy Janowiz yesterday. His next opponent will be Australian Marinko Matosevic.
Before the exhibition match there will be a series of matched between Peruvian talent.
“We still haven’t confirmed the names, but the idea is to organize a doubles match with Nadal and Ferrer and some Peruvian players,” Gonzales said.
