Her Majesty Queen Maxima of the Netherlands will visit Peru to support the Andean country’s efforts to make financial services more accessible to the poor.
Queen Maxima is due to arrive in Lima on Wednesday to meet with President Ollanta Humala and his wife, First Lady Nadine Heredia.
The queen travels in her capacity as UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Inclusive Finance for Development. She will also visit the Colombian cities of Bogota and Bucaramanga before arriving in the Peruvian capital.
Queen Maxima will meet with ministers and bankers, and will see for herself what is done in both countries to help low income families and especially women to become financially independent.
While in Lima, she will hold talks with Development and Social Inclusion Minister Paola Bustamante, Education Minister Jaime Saavedra, Central Bank Governor Julio Velarde, Banco de la Nación President Carlos Diaz, and representatives from the Peruvian Bank Association (Asbanc).
