Put your favorite sweatpants on and turn your phone on silent: season three of the popular Netflix documentary series, “Chef’s Table,” returns this February 17.
The cult hit is known for its breathtaking cinematography in and around kitchens, and the tantalizing tales from international chefs filled with drama, passion, and humor. The upcoming season will dedicate one episode to Peru’s own Virgilio Martinez, chef and creator of award-winning Central, based in Lima.
Since opening Central in the tourist-friendly district of Miraflores, Virgilio has opened several other eateries including Senzo, in Cusco, as well as Lima and Lima Floral, both in London. In 2015 he published his Peruvian cuisine recipe book, “LIMA: The Cookbook,” available in English and Spanish. In his downtime he likes to win awards for running one of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World and best in Latin America.
Virgilio has amplified the role of the chef by developing the Mater project, a team of researchers and chefs who travel across Peru in search of native and rare ingredients that can be incorporated by the chef, and thus promoted.
Virgilio is the only Latin American chef to be highlighted in the new season. The airing date for his episode has yet to be announced.
