On April 19, World Bicycle Day is celebrated and it is an ideal moment to promote this two-wheeled mode of transport. Lima needs to work a lot on this matter as only 6 districts including La Molina, Surco, Surquillo, San Borja, Miraflores and San Isidro have introduced public policies for bicyclist safety and mobility. In a similar way, Lima has only 175,5 km of bike paths, compared to Bogota with 392 km and Rio de Janeiro, 307 km.
Only 1% of the population in Lima uses bicycles as a way of transportation. That’s why today is a very good opportunity to promote this activity.
The first event starts today, April 19, at 7:30 pm at El Parque Kennedy in Miraflores, where there will be an evening bike ride. Likewise, in the city center of Lima in Pasaje Santa Rosa, there will be an exhibition of pictures called “The bicycle in the city”.
Later in the week on Sunday, April 23 in Miraflores, the Dutch Embassy will hold a family bike event called “I am sustainable because I go on a bike” (Sostenible soy, en bicicleta voy) which seeks to promote the use of this means of transport. The ambassador of Holland, Wiebe de Boer will be opening the event at 10 a.m. in Parque Grau.
