As if the country needed more reason to celebrate food at a time when Mistura is just about to start, the Lima-based restaurant, Central, was awarded Best Restaurant in Latin America on Wednesday. This is the second annual edition of San Pelligrino´s list of the 50 Best Lation American Restaurants. Central owners and chefs, Virgilio Martinez and Pia Leon, were recognized for using native ingredients presented in an avant-garde style.

“We need to share this with the entire Latin America family,” Martinez told The Daily Meal after receiving his award. Having been open for only five years, Central was recognized in 2013 as well when it was ranked fourth. Earlier this year the seemingly unstoppable duo was ranked fifteenth in San Pelligrino´s 50 Best Restaurants in the World.

As a whole, Peru was a standout country, claiming three of the top ten spots.

Perhaps as no surprise, Astrid & Gaston, now led by Diego Munez, made an appearance on the list, coming in at number two. With his Nikkei cuisine, Mishu Tsumara´s Maido recieved seventh place.

A new contender, La Picanteria, was ranked thirty-first by San Pelligrino.

All four of the Peruvian restaurants mentioned can be enjoyed in the nation´s capital city, Lima.
