The eyes of foodies and travel-lovers are once again on Peru, but this time for a slightly different reason than one might expect. World-famous chef Andrew Zimmern is visiting Lima, but he’s looking to do more than your average food profile on the city. In fact, what Zimmern wants to to highlight the wonderful weirdness of local cuisine for his Travel Channel show, “Bizarre Foods.”
According to El Comercio, Zimmern began his trip to Perú with a tasty dish of scallops on Sunday. The next day, he was taken through some of Lima’s markets with the best guide you could ask for : Gastón Acurio. On Monday, Zimmern tweeted a picture of Acurio tasting an unidentified substance in with the caption “In the market with Gaston… Doesn’t get any better.”
Zimmern has been tweeting and using social photo site Instagram during his trip, documenting mouth-watering dishes at several of Acurio’s restaurants and their adventures in Lima’s markets.
El Comercio reports that this isn’t the first time Zimmern has highlighted Peruvian food on his show. In 2011, the Peruvian embassy in Washington, D.C. hosted him as he tried a variety of Peruvian foods, including octopus ceviche, cau cau, and guinea pig.
So what do you think, readers? Do you have any “bizarre food” recommendations for Chef Zimmern?
