Peru’s Association of Air Traffic Controllers (ACTA PERU) has expressed concern about the alleged inadequacies of the radar at Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport.

In a letter sent to the authorities at Corpac (Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation), the association mentioned, they had observed three events that were “extremely negative for the safety of air operations,” in the past two weeks

The letter states that on October 12 the airport’s AMS2000 Radar System went down for more than two hours, and the control center experienced two minutes of total communication systems failure.

There was another radar drop on October 25, this time the downtime lasted more than three hours.

A 12-hour system drop occurred the following day, according to the letter, quoted by T-News.

The letter says that under present circumstances these events are “catastrophic for operational safety,” and that Corpac’s failure to disclose the radar’s condition represented a “criminal act.”
