Palestine\‘s Ambassador to Peru, Walid Abdel Rahim, has expressed his deep gratitude to Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and his support of the Palestinian state at the United Nations.
"I want to express on behalf of the Palestinian people the deep gratitude for Peru and President Ollanta Humala\‘s support," he said, according to Andina.
On Thursday, during the UN General Assembly, President Humala expressed Peru\‘s support for Palestinian statehood. Other Latin American countries, led by Brazil, also believe that Palestine should be recognized as a state by the international community.
Ambassador Rahim said the international community that make up the United Nations was directly responsible "for the Palestinian tragedy," because, he said, it was the UNs resolution that originally divided the territory to make the state of Israel.
"The Palestinian problem arises from the United Nations headquarters in 1947 when they decide to partition Palestine into two states, without consulting us," he added.
The Palestinian Embassy in Peru also invited people to participate in a peaceful march in support of the campaign "Palestine as full member of the United Nations" which will take place on Friday 23 September, 4:00 pm at Parque Kennedy in Miraflores, Lima.
