Peru’s domestic air traffic increases by 17pct this year

According to a report by the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) domestic air traffic increased by 17.65% between January and July, compared to the same period in 2010.
So far this year there have been 3,496,609 national passengers.
July alone saw 575,805 passengers, which represented an increase of 18.18 percent compared to the same month in 2010, when the number of passengers was 487,207.
According to an article in Andina, the most frequent destinations during July 2011 were Cusco, with 166,885 passengers (20.47 percent increase compared to July 2010), Arequipa 89,850 passengers (4.41 percent), Iquitos, 56,640 passengers (3.55 percent) and Piura with 49,971 passengers (59.84 percent).
Nationally, Lan Peru had the largest share in domestic air traffic, carrying 2,159,285, which accounted for 61.75 percent of the market.
Other carriers were Peruvian Airlines, with 562,682 passengers (16.09 percent of the market), Star Peru with 490,083 passengers (14.02 percent), Taca Peru with 195,218 passengers (5.58 percent) and Atsa with 32,916 passengers (0.94 percent).
