Peru keeps its commitment in support of peace by sending 216 members of the Peruvian Armed Forces to provide humanitarian aid in Haiti, Peru's Defense Minister Pedro Cateriano said Monday.
The so-called Blue Berets will leave the country for a six-month peacekeeping mission.
"Haiti is a country that still requires international assistance to reach national order, thus Peruvian Blue Berets will be helping bring peace there," said Cateriano, who chaired the farewell ceremony Monday morning.
He recalled that the representative of the United Nations Secretary-General said that they were very grateful for the performance being made by members of the Peruvian Armed Forces.
The Central American country has been facing the consequences of a devastating earthquake that hit in January 2010.

Thinking out of the box recommended. This will be a great experience for Peru's Blue Berets and the Haitian people will benefit from their help and feel empowered. The Peruvians will teach them how to be resourceful and how to survive. Ever heard of "ingenio Peruano"??

What about peacekeepers that are needed in Peru? This is just ridiculous, I feel sympathy for Haiti, but I don't understand Peru's actions, because it avoids the issues on its homefront. A nation cannot help others, when if it cannot help itself

I agree 100% with NYpoodle. Also I think it's time Haiti as a people started helping itself. btw...haiti is in the Caribbean, not Central America
