Peru's cuisine continues to draw international accolades.
Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Jose Luis Silva announced, on Wednesday, that Peru has won two categories at the 2012 World Travel Awards (WTA).
Peru was named ‘World’s Leading Culinary Destination’, while Machu Picchu was named the ‘World’s Leading Green Destination’.
The World Travel Awards - often called “the Oscars of the travel industry” - was launched in 1993 to acknowledge and recognize excellence in the global travel and tourism industry.
This year’s grand ceremony took place in New Delhi, India.
Last September the WTA named Peru as ‘South America’s Leading Culinary Destination’, beating out other nominees such as Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela, during a ceremony held in the Turks & Caicos Islands.
During the same ceremony PeruRail’s Andean Explorer was named as ‘South America’s Leading Luxury Train’.

If I were going to travel mainly based on cuisine Peru would rank far down the list. I would want to go to places like France,Italy, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, Mexico, Greece, India and Morocco. That leaves Peru out of the top 10 on my list.
