The Commission for the Promotion of Peru’s Exports and Tourism (PromPeru) launched a new international campaign for Marca Peru (Peru Brand) on Tuesday, featuring an ad directed by former Oscar-nominated Peruvian filmmaker Claudia Llosa.
The three-minute ad shows a business executive in 2032, receiving a video message he sent himself after his visit to Peru 20 years earlier.
The new campaign was carried out by McCann Perú, and was led by Leandro Raposo, who had previously worked on award-winning ads for Aerolineas Argentinas and Knorr, Gestión reported.
Max Gutierrez, CEO of McCann Perú, said the ad was emotional, but said it appealed to a different emotion than the previous Peru Brand ad, which was aimed at a local audience.
"It’s not about just making a National Geographic type spot, but rather a lifestyle. I do not think that people travel to eat, a small group maybe, but not a mass audience, you need something more, food is a plus,” Gutierrez was quoted as saying by Gestión.
The new campaign will consist of advertising on television, print, social networks, and billboards.
Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Jose Luis Silva said the new campaign aims not only at increasing the number of tourists, but also at securing Peru’s image as a modern nation.
"2012 is the year of internationalization of the Peru Brand. We have seen how the brand has gripped Peruvians, which is why this is the right time to go a step further and make it known to the world, because it is supported by all Peruvians, companies, and institutions that are aware of the wealth that our country has to offer,” Silva said.
“The Peru Brand is out to conquer the world.”

The only thing I don't totally get about Marca Perú is its purpose... is it just supposed to build self esteem among Peruvians? I had been under the impression that it was supposed to promote tourism, trade and general interest from foreigners but everything they do seems targeted at Peruvians and not foreigners. Unless they're just going for other Latin Americans and Spaniards (as may well be the case with this video considering the protagonist) it seems odd that we've yet to see much from them in English let alone Chinese, French, Arabic, German, etc.

If you live in my beautiful country....look around! Peruvians have great self-esteem,they are confident, dynamic people. If you watched the "Marca Peru" filmed in Peru, Nebraska you will confirm it. The purpose of this campaign IS to promote tourism. The proof of the pudding: the people of Peru, Nebraska dream about travelling to my native country. At least two have already visited Lima, Cuzco and Machu Picchu. I guess some people are not aware that the "Marca Peru" campaign has merited a Webby award and the recognition of the Cannes Festival. :) QUE VIVA EL PERU!

I like the video, although it did not impacted me. What I don´t undestand is why the guy speaks spanish with a typical accent from Spain, if this is a video about Perú! Don´t like that at all!.

Very few people outside of Peru even know about this campaign to promote Peru. Peru brags that it will have 2.9 million tourists next year but as an example the city of Vancouver Canada receives 6 million tourists.

This is a nice little movie- but it fails sadly in its mission - the message is rather personal - this does not showcase the best of Peru at all - which is a shame - checkout Travel Alberta , Canada on you tube. They definitely did it right. Peru has so much to show and be proud of- i agree with the comment above - why not hire a professional advertising agency to do this? There are tons of talented people in that field in Peru...

Let's give the "Marca Peru" campaign a chance to reach it's goal. I certainly hope it's not 6 million tourists annually..that would be over the top for Peru. I would rather 2.9 million more people go to Vancouver! : ) Good to know Alberta Canada is doing such a great job with their tourism campaign for the same reason. Although you can't compare an apple to a pineapple.

Do you know how much money was spent in the ad? I don´t. But I would think that a couple guys playing with their smartphones and aplying some apps would have made it better, and cheaper. Sorry, unless no one charged for that.

Lots of true, lots of missunderstanding ....The original purpose (Marca Peru is just in its second act)is to lift Peruvians self esteem. Peru Nebraska was a hit amongst Peruvians, it hit the objective. I beleive the Loreto-Italia as well is aimed for Peruvians. This emotional Spaniard add might be aimed for Spaiards ? (Duhh !). More to come, do not rush critizising....even if everyone is entitled to its own ideas, silly or not !

The ad runs in different languages and different settings are used, I have seen the French one and it is spectacular, a relative who lives in France forwarded and what is wrong with the Spanish accent! come on, let us be positive, there is much to do and each campaign can be better...let Claudia Llosa hear from you directly!

The origin of this was historic, check out the beginning reasons of adopting this as a "Symbol". It is great and represents Peru. Everybody else, just go and visit and see for yourself.
