President Ollanta Humala confirmed on Tuesday, that he would travel to Argentina on June 29, to partake in the emergency meeting convened by the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), to discuss the political situation in Paraguay after the impeachment of President Fernando Lugo.
According to Peru21, Humala avoided offering details regarding the upcoming meeting, although, in previous days the president had been vocal about his belief that Lugo’s removal from office was “threatening democracy” in Paraguay.
Last Saturday, Humala said the impeachment had been "a setback to the democratic process in the region,” and called on the region to be cautious.
On Sunday Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the country’s ambassador to Paraguay had been called back to Lima, in order to analyze the situation.
Lugo is also expected to attend the UNASUR meeting, which will take place in Mendoza, Argentina.

What Paraguayans have executed is by exercising their Constitution and that should be respected. All Governments have their own processes and Constitutions and no other country should intervene but the ONU/OEA. Seems that the Argentinean President has found a pretext to justify the inclusion of Venezuela in MERCOSUR....and all the 'compradres' are falling in the same mistake.....

I think the issue is more about the rapidity of his "impeachment." Some call it a coup d'etat although it was done by the books, just incredibly fast. Many Paraguayans seem angry over this so perhaps it's not the people who are exercising the Constitution, just certain people in power. Time will tell, there is always more than 2 sides of the story.

The US has been operating secret teams against the progressive governments of Latin America because the US is too weak to do an actual invasion. So far they have been successful only in Honduras (at any rate a US colony all of my 70 years and long before that) and now in Paraguay. This despite having tried to overthrow the Presidents of Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia. Most of you will remember the Nazi Stroessner regime in Paraguay and the fact that Paraguay has been the center of German Nazi colonization and political activity since the end of World War II (e.g., The Boys From Brazil). The fact that these ruling families have succeeded with the help of US secret agents in deposing the weakest President in South America should not be surprising. Perhaps the united continent (minus perhaps Colombia still a US semi colony)can find an effective way to respond and President Humala is being cautious as neither he nor the others are sure of what will be successful in this regard.
