A documentary about the ancient city of Machu Picchu won an Emmy Award, for ‘best historical documentary’.

‘Wonders of the World: Machu Picchu’, a documentary by Ashley Colburn, was filmed during a trip that coincided with the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of the ancient city.

Colburn, who was invited on the trip by Promperú, visited the country between April 4 and 14 of last year, and toured the cities of Lima, Cusco, and Puerto Maldonado, Andina reported.

"Shooting in Peru was an experience that changed my life, and having the opportunity to explore Machu Picchu during the centenary was really an honor. This is a place everyone should visit at some point in their lives,” Colburn was quoted as saying by Andina.

The film was the first documentary about Machu Picchu to be filmed entirely in HD and 3D.

"I am therefore very grateful to Promperú and everyone who supported us during filming and made this possible," she said.

‘Wonders of the World: Machu Picchu’ was Colburn’s third Emmy nomination, and second win.
