The body of the police officer Cesar Vilca Vega was found on Wednesday, 3 weeks after his disappearance.
According to RPP, Vilca’s body was found 300 meters from the area where he and his unit were ambushed by narco-terrorists last month.
Vilca’s body was found by his father Dionisio Vilca, and two guides, outside a community in Alto Lagunas, in the province of La Convención.
Vilca and police officer Luis Astuquillca were injured during an ambush last April 12, while participating in a rescue mission searching for the kidnapped Camisea contractors.
Astuquillca was found alive on April 30, after he managed to walk to safety despite bullet wounds to his right leg and arm.
Astuquillca said he left Vilca three days after the ambush, to find help.
According to RPP, Vilca will be transported to Lima, where he will be given a police funeral.
