On Wednesday Prime Minister Oscar Valdes announced the government had approved the Chinecas hydroelectric project.

According to Gestión, Valdes said the project had met all the technical requirements needed for operation.

"Tomorrow we will be with the president of Ancash in the town of Chimbote to sign the viability of the project, which has already passed all the technical aspects," the Prime Minister said.

Valdes also congratulated the technical team in charge of examining the technical and economic details, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance.

President Humala had previously ordered the project be reviewed in a 60-day period, Gestión reported.

During a press conference, the Prime Minister announced some adjustments had been made to the project, during the study. "With these modifications we have reached a happy agreement," he said.

"These are activities that will bring many jobs. This shows that Peru has a bright future because we are not only in the mining industry, but we will give value to exports.”
