On Thursday protests in the city of Paita, in Piura, left 26 people injured, and one dead.
The protests were led by local fishermen’s unions aiming to increase fishing quotas in the region.
Violence had subsided by Friday, but about 500 protestors continued to block the highway, local radio RPP reported.
The protestors said they would continue to block the road until authorities traveled to the area, and start negotiations.
The demonstration turned violent on Thursday, as protestors tried to take over a Paita police station. One protestor died from a gunshot wound, local media reported.
On Friday police authorities, and over 100 members of the Peruvian army guarded the police station, RPP said.
