There is no longer any doubt that summer is over: this weekend Lima will experience the year’s coldest temperature, so far.

On Thursday, Senamhi, Peru’s weather service said the temperature was expected to drop to 16 degrees Celsius (60.8 degrees Farenheit) over the weekend.

According to Martin Bomshoms, a meteorologist at Senamhi, temperatures would be at their lowest during the early morning, especially in east Lima.

"This week we’ve seen a steady decline in temperature in the capital. We expect 16.5 degrees in Lima, and in some sectors it could reach 16 degrees,” Bomshoms said to Andina.

However, Senamhi also said temperature in the city could also peak at 27 degrees during the day.

Bomshoms predicted the presence of cold winds at night, would lead to increased moisture in the city.

"In general, we will have mornings with some fog, and a sunny outlook around noon with pleasant temperatures.”
