Peru miner trapped in Ayacucho

An informal miner was trapped underground on Tuesday, after a cave-in at a mine in Ayacucho.
According to Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mining, Medardo Gutiérrez Díaz was trapped in a mine in the province of Paucar del Sara Sara.
Minister of Energy and Mining Jorge Merino said a rescue team was headed to the area, Peru21 reported.
Edigio Yauyos, president of the local Informal Miners Association, said Gutierrez had suffered bruises and cuts, but no serious injuries.
Minister Merino said his deputy minister Guillermo Shinno, would travel to the area to coordinate the rescue.
News of the trapped miner comes days after 9 miners were rescued, after being trapped underground for 6 days.
The nine miners, aged 22 to 59, were able to maintain communication to the outside via a tube, which also doubled as a water and oxygen line.
