On Wednesday Peru’s Minister of Finance Luis Miguel Castilla rang the opening bell at the London Stock Exchange.
Castilla, who was in London for the inPeru investment road show, said opening the trading session was a great honor.
"Few countries have the privilege of opening the London Stock Exchange, and today we have, along with Peruvian business leaders,” Castilla said, according to El Comercio.
Peruvian representatives traveled to London for inPeru, a series of events designed to bring together business, government and financial leaders, to discuss investment opportunities in Peru.
"We\‘ve shown what Peru has to offer the world: investment opportunities, a stable legal framework, and a different situation to that prevailing in Europe," Castilla said.
The road show, which ran from April 16 to the 18, featured speakers such as Minister Castilla, Barclays Capital chief economist Piero Ghezzi, President of the Association of Pension Fund Administrators (and former ambassador to the U.S.) Luis Valdivieso, and Julio Velarde, president of the Central Reserve Bank.
Representatives from financial publications, such as The Economist, Bloomberg, and the Financial Times, were also in attendance.
