Lima: massive fire at Ministry of Education warehouse destroys textbooks

On Thursday night, a massive fire destroyed a Ministry of Education warehouse located on block 1 of Tingo Maria, in downtown Lima.
According to Peru21, around 150 firefighters arrived at the site shortly after the fire started, at around 10pm. It took firefighters almost 9 hours to extinguish the fire.
Police authorities said the cause of the fire was being investigated. According to Canal N the fire started after a short circuit in the building.
Martin Vegas, Deputy Minister of Educational Management said the fire had destroyed textbooks that were going to be distributed to schools around the country’s provinces.
"We have suffered the very serious loss of textbook materials that were going to be distributed to children throughout Peru," Vegas said.
According to Patricia Salas, Minister of Education, the fire caused about 280 million soles in damages.
No casualties were reported, but 5 firefighters sustained light injuries.
