The Municipality of Lima relaunched work at the Santa Rosa tunel on Wednesday, after work was interruped for a year, reported Peru21.
The tunnel, which would link the districts of San Juan de Lurigancho and Rimac, was interrupted after part of the tunnel collapsed during drilling, in February 2011.
Rafael Lopez, general manager of the Lima’s Toll Administration (Emape), said the damage was assesed and a new technical study was developed that would allow for work to continue without any problems.
"[The] technical improvements involve an additional budget of S/.70 million, which would allow for the continuation of the construction of road infrastructure," Lopez said, according to Peru21.
He said the proposed budget increase would be taken to the city’s council, where it would be discussed.
The new technical study, Lopez said, would signifcantly increase saftey during construction.
He said about 60 million soles had been invested in the project to date.
