On Wednesday the Municipality of Lima announced it had decided to cancel the proposed Metropolitano 2 bus system.

The Metropolitano 2 would have linked Ate and Callao, but was suspended because it would have covered the same ground as the recently announced Line 2 of the Lima Metro.

"It won’t happen. We have decided to suspend the Metropolitano 2," said Juan Tapia, president of ProTransporte.

According to Andina, Tapia said the Municipality of Lima would instead aim to establish complimentary lines to the Lima Metro’s second line.

Tapia said the district of Lima "seeks to work harmoniously with the national government" in order to reach a solution to Lima’s transport problems.

Previously, Minister of Transport and Communication Carlos Paredes said the second line of the Lima Metro would take about five to six years to be built.

"We estimate the technical studies will take about two years and the building will be about three years, this means that operations could start in five or six years," Paredes said.

Let´s put on our thinking caps, folks. Lima airport is billed as having been the busiest in So. Am for the last 3 or 4 yrs. And Miraflores is the most popular destination for foreign tourists. Now where do you think the next link of public transportation should go?
