On Wednesday the Peru-Chile border crossing in Chacalluta was re-opened after being closed for 2 days.
The Chilean border was closed on Monday after flooding in Rio Seco, Arica, caused nearby landmines to become displaced.
Rocio Orbegoso, head of migration in Tacna, said the border was scheduled to re-open on Wednesday night or Thursday morning, but had been opened earlier after the Chilean army sped up its work locating the mines.
Orbegoso said migration authorities in Tacna were ready to resume their work.
"We are prepared, all the service staff is present and we’ve taken more staff to make the migration process more agile," she said, according to Andina news group.
She said there were reports of about 3 thousand Peruvians who were stranded in Chile after the border closed.
On average, she said, there are about 22,000 to 24,000 people crossing through the Santa Rosa migration post.
