Peru’s export and tourism promotion agency (Promperu) estimated Tuesday that Peru’s exports would grow from eight to nine percent in 2012, despite international unfavorable environment.

Director of Export Promotion at Promperu, Luis Torres noted that if the projection comes true, Peru would experience a high growth, having in mind that the international environment remains uncertain.

“We expect that as it has been the tradition in all the projections made in the foreign trade sector, the reality will far exceed this rate,” Torres stated.

Torres went on to say that Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Jose Luis Silva, who chairs Promperu is convinced that Peruvian exports growth will be higher than the figure estimated by the institution.

He recalled that, against all odds, 2011 was a very positive year for non traditional exports and broke the figure of US$10 billion by amounting US$10.1 billion.
