On Monday a Peruvian court ordered a 24-hour preliminary arrest for British citizen Owen Arthur Godard.

Godard is wanted for questioning by police, regarding the death of his girlfriend Maribel Mendoza Riquez.

According to AmericaTV, Mendoza fell from the couple's apartment, and Godard jumped shortly after. Mendoza’s family said she was three months pregnant, and added that Godard, with whom she had lived for over a year, had a violent personality.

“Owen was obsessively jealous, my sister had already filed a complaint of physical abuse at the San Isidro police station," said Flor Olivia Riquez, Mendoza’s half sister.

Godard’s neighbors said it was not uncommon to hear arguments coming from the couple’s apartments, and said he usually received visits from known drug dealers.

According to AmericaTV, Godard has denied being involved in Mendoza’s death.

On Monday the country’s criminal court ordered Godard be detained, in order to determine his role in the incident.
