On Wednesday former presidential candidate Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said he would sign the petition that aims to recall Mayor Susana Villarán.
According to Peru21, Kuczynski said one year in office is long enough for Lima’s mayor to show some progress and achieve some goals.
"I think I would [sign the recall], because a year is long enough to start saying what has been achieved," he told Canal N.
The former presidential candidate denied he would run for mayor if Villarán were removed from office.
He said the mayor’s failure to meet expectations was reflected in her high disapproval ratings.
A recent survey, carried out by CPI, said 58.9 percent of Lima citizens support Villarán being removed from office.
58.2 percent of those survey said they would sign the recall petition.
According to Peru21, the citizens group leading the recall has claimed it has gathered 90 thousand signatures – of the 400 thousand signatures needed.
The group predicted it would reach its goal by mid February.
