Protests continued to escalate in Cajamarca, on Tuesday, during the sixth day of anti-mining protests.
Demonstrators clashed with police near the Cortado area, and several injuries were reported.
Six people were taken to the local health center, due to bullet wounds, reported El Comercio.
Those who arrived at the local hospital said police had been responsible for the injuries.
Cajamarca’s director of health, Reynaldo Nuñez ruled out any deaths.
“These situations lend themselves to all kind of information. We have a very good source that says there is no dead so far. It would be very difficult for there to be any deaths because they would have been brought here to the hospital,” he said to El Comercio.
Some protestors broke into the Conga offices, in Celendin, and broke computers, chairs, mattresses and anything else they could find.
According to local radio RPP, protestors impeded photographers from taking pictures of the events.
Items were taken to the streets and set on fire, causing local residents to attempt to put the fire out, for fear it would spread to their homes.
