Most people who visit Lima eventually end up in Miraflores to visit the renowned shopping center, Larcomar. Within Larcomar are a variety of restaurants to choose from, including the popular, family-owned and operated Cafe Cafe. This could be your destination after a long day of power shopping. One of the attractions of this restaurant is the spectacular view that overlooks the ocean. Another is the menu with over 250 items (not including the cocktail selection).
We began our dining experience at Cafe Cafe with a couple of refreshing cremoladas, which are similar to Italian ices, but more concentrated. Our favorite was the guanabana (soursop) flavor. Guanabana is hard to describe, but for me it was like a combination of pineapple and a mild sour citrus taste with an underlying creamy flavor. This fruit is not overly sweet and possibly the reason why I enjoyed it even more. Cafe Cafe also offers nine other flavors of cremoladas.
We sampled several Cafe Cafe dishes such as the ribs, a club sandwich, pepperoni pizza and ensalada caribena, as well as desserts like the carrot cake and various coffees. The first selection that arrived at our table were the Texas ribs, which were both meaty and succulent with the perfect amount of sauce so as to not overwhelm the ribs. This was definitely a hit at our table.
Cafe Cafe is very proud of the signature club sandwich. This triple-decker of ham, bacon, chicken, tomato, cheese and a fried egg arrives on lightly toasted bread. It was quite delicious and worth its reputation.
The first time I visited Cafe Cafe for a quick bite, I ordered the grilled vegetarian sandwich. This sandwich is perfect for vegetarians or for that person that just wants to take a break from meat. This sandwich of eggplant, zucchini, sundried tomato, artichoke, black olives and mozzarella cheese are all nestled inside ciabatta bread and perfectly grilled. This is one of the best sandwiches I have had while in Peru. I highly recommend both of these sandwiches. Cafe Cafe offers at least 25 different sandwiches as well as "light" option sandwiches.
Cafe Cafe has something for everyone. The menu is abundant with variety, and includes main dishes, sandwiches, tapas, appetizers, breakfast, soups, pastas, paellas, pizzas, salads, juices, vegetarian options, cremoladas, desserts, a vast array of coffees and specialty coffee drinks and an extensive cocktail selection. You will find many typical "American" dishes as well as the many Peruvian plates. Plus it is an extraordinary value for your money. I was delighted to find out that Cafe Cafe offers a breakfast menu (11 selections), which are available all day. Cafe Cafe serves a kid-friendly menu as well. If you are looking for "happy hour" you will find one there from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., as well as "2-for-1" drinks Monday thru Friday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.. The wine list includes wines from Peru, Argentina, Chile and Spain and offer by the glass or the bottle. There are various lunch hour specials as well as seasonal specials throughout the year.
This is a popular nightspot for the late-night crowd, as well as for shoppers, movie-goers those who just want to meet up with friends to relax and enjoy a couple of cocktails or one of the many coffee concoctions and a snack.
