December 22, 2011
It's December 22nd, which means that you've probably been hearing Christmas carols for the last month or so, be it in stores, at work or on the radio. So if you're a little sick of Bing Crosby by now, we have a special treat for you.
Jose Luis Madueño and Ricardo Silva have released a special Christmas album, using the traditional instruments of Peru. The result, AfroAndina Christmas, provides a uniquely Peruvian twist to some classic Christmas carols. Here is their take on Greensleeves, one of the oldest English-language carols.
As a special Christmas treat, readers can download one free .mp3 from the group's Facebook page. All you have to do is click the "Download Free Music from AfroAndino" button and follow the instructions.
Finally, one lucky reader can win a free digital copy of the whole album. Please send an email to culture reporter Susana Aguirre at sa@livinginperu.com if you would like to enter the drawing. The album can also be purchased on iTunes.
UPDATED: Thank you all for participating! We have ended the contest.
