Last, but certainly not least, the incredible collection of local fashion designer Jorge Luis Salinas was the grand finale of six days of elegance, glamour and fashion in LIFWeek.  Salinas, who studied fashion design at Philadelphia University, owns his own brand: Emporium.  Through this brand he offers not only poplin blouses and jeans, but also jackets and shoes with a very urban style for young ladies. And denim was the “main character” last Friday night during the last runway show of the week.

Salinas amazed the attendants with an extremely innovative proposal: long elegant night dresses made of denim with shiny details. Sounds crazy, right? And remember that denim is a thick and heavy fabric, so it is complicated to work with.  But the finished looks gave off the impression of a mix of elegance and urban modernity.

The Break arrived early to the event, so we had the chance to watch the final arrangements prior to the show. We saw some models practicing as well as Salinas giving some directions for all to be perfect. And he really achieved his goal. The performance of every model was excellent, considering the enormous and heavy dresses that some of them were wearing.

This year Salinas far exceeded the critics’ expectations with his dresses in denim, even though they are not the kind of dress that a woman would normally wear to a party or wedding.  In spite of that fact, his creativity and all the research he did before the design phase were high valued and rewarded with applause.
